What is Pilates?
Pilates is a fitness regime that targets the inner core muscles of our torso. Our deep stabilizing muscles in our back and stomach support our spine and provide us with a solid foundation from which to move. If this foundation is weak or injured the larger more superfiscial muscles in our bodies can become overworked and fatigued. When muscles become overworked an imbalance in the movement mechanics of our bodies can occur creating postural dysfunction and pain. Indications of postural misalignment and inbalance can show up in the body as

Pilates is a strength training program that begins with using our own body weight as resistance and then progresses to using props like dyna bands, hand weights and balls. Once the body has adapted to these challenges, Pilates machines like the reformer and cadillac can be added to enhance your pilates experience. The results of this form of training is profound. Chronic back pain disappears, our midsection becomes flatter and our overall physiques become more streamlined . Pilates exercises are safe for everybody and can be adapted and modified for people with injuries and or movement limitations.
